Dog-Friendly Restaurants in Wiesbaden: Where to Eat, Leash Rules & Day Trips

Where to eat with your dog in Wiesbaden, which leash rules apply in restaurants, parks and buses, and what can ride up the Neroberg.

A dog lies relaxed next to a café table
ACTIVITIES

Dog-friendly restaurants in Wiesbaden include, according to the Souldog map data, Restaurant Viora, Fünf Neun Zwei, Si Ristorante and the café Les Deux Messieurs. Under Hesse's dog ordinance, dogs must be on a leash in restaurants and pubs. Whether your dog is welcome inside is up to the venue, not a directory.

his guide sorts out where you can eat with your dog, what applies in parks, forests and buses, and what to know about the Neroberg. For each point it says what is confirmed. What I could not confirm is marked as such.

Restaurants and cafés with a dog in Wiesbaden

Confirmed as dog-friendly in the Souldog map data in Wiesbaden are, among others, these four venues, all in the city centre:

  • Restaurant Viora (restaurant)
  • Fünf Neun Zwei, 592 (modern Italian, restaurant)
  • Si Ristorante (Italian restaurant)
  • Les Deux Messieurs (French café and bistro)

This is a selection, not a complete list. You will find all confirmed places in the Souldog app and in the directory of cafés and restaurants in Wiesbaden. I only named venues whose Wiesbaden address I checked: the Souldog radius reaches across the Rhine to Mainz, and some hits there do not belong to Wiesbaden.

Ask before you go whether this also applies indoors. Many venues allow dogs only on the terrace, and house rules change. One call settles two things: whether a spot at the edge is free and whether your dog may lie inside or only outside.

State law adds one more rule. Hesse's dog ordinance (HundeVO) requires in section 9, paragraph 2 that dogs are kept on a leash at, among other places, restaurants and pubs and on public transport. That applies even when the venue welcomes dogs. The version I could read dates from 2013; I did not check a later amendment against its text. For general tips on visiting, see our guide to dog-friendly cafés in Germany.

Leash rules in Wiesbaden: what applies

Hesse has no general leash requirement for all dogs everywhere. The HundeVO requires a leash in specific situations: at events with crowds, in restaurants and pubs, on public transport and on areas the municipality designates, especially parks, gardens, green spaces and pedestrian zones. Dogs also must not run unsupervised outside their own property.

For Wiesbaden I can say this much: according to city council documents, a leash requirement applies in the city area in pedestrian zones, on public transport and in green spaces, among other places. That statement comes from a 2011 motion. I did not find the current text of Wiesbaden's own ordinance, so I name no fine. Expect a leash in parks and public gardens and watch for signs.

Under section 9, paragraph 1 HundeVO, dangerous dogs must be on a leash outside their own property; dogs with a passed temperament test are exempt. For these dogs the leash may be at most two metres long.

Dog parks in Wiesbaden: no official list found

I did not find an official overview of Wiesbaden's off-leash areas. In 2011 the city council asked for suitable areas to be proposed. A 2018 city proposal suggested three areas as a one-year pilot: Mainz-Kastel at the Lachebrücke, the Rheinwiesen in Biebrich and the Hintere Kuranlagen. I could not establish whether these areas were set up and apply today. Directory sites list further areas, but without confirmation from the city I name none.

So the rule matters here more than usual: off-leash running is allowed only on a clearly designated area, not in a whole park. Ask the city before you let your dog off the leash anywhere, and check the signs. Souldog has no separate directory of Wiesbaden dog parks yet; the place directory has parks and forests in Wiesbaden. For help judging an area, see dog park near me.

With your dog to the Neroberg, the Kurpark and the Rhine

Neroberg and the Nerobergbahn

The Nerobergbahn takes dogs. According to ESWE Verkehr, carrying dogs is allowed and free. In 2026 the funicular runs from 3 April to 1 November, daily from 9 am to 7 pm every 15 minutes; check the times before you go. For the paths and forest on the Neroberg the city names no separate dog rule. The general rules apply: leash where signs require it, and secure control of your dog in forest and fields.

Kurpark and the spa gardens

I found no separate dog rule for the Kurpark. It counts as a green space where, according to city documents, a leash requirement applies. Plan your walk on the leash and look for signs at the entrance. The Hintere Kuranlagen were discussed in 2018 as a possible off-leash area; I do not list them as a permitted area.

Rhine bank in Biebrich and the palace park

For the Schlosspark Biebrich and the Rhine bank I found no confirmed dog rule. Bring a leash and assume you will need it. Swimming with dogs is not designated in the Rhine; the river has shipping traffic. Check the signs on site. More on water and safety is in our guide to swimming with your dog at lakes and the sea.

Not with a dog: the Fasanerie

The Fasanerie is off limits to dogs. The city states that dogs and other pets may not be brought in, to protect the wild and farm animals. Marked assistance dogs are the exception. Plan a different walk if you are in the area.

Breeding season and swine fever

Hesse has no statewide uniform leash requirement during the breeding and rearing season. Towns and municipalities set it by bylaw, with different periods, often starting 1 March. I did not find a Wiesbaden bylaw on this. If you walk through fields and forest in spring, keep your dog on a leash and watch for signs; a dog that does not reliably come back belongs on the leash in this period.

In addition, the city has issued general orders because of African swine fever, most recently on 7 May 2026. The leash requirement previously ordered for the Schiersteiner Aue was dropped. It may still apply elsewhere. You will find the current status at wiesbaden.de/asp.

Dogs on buses and trains: ESWE Verkehr and RMV

The RMV states that it carries dogs free of charge if they are on a leash and accompanied by a suitable person. Dogs that could endanger others need a muzzle. ESWE Verkehr names a leash and a suitable muzzle in its carriage regulations for dogs that do not travel in a container. So bring the muzzle. Animals may not sit on seats, and staff decide in individual cases. Guide dogs are always admitted.

Pets up to about the size of a cat travel as hand luggage in a closed container. How this works with the Deutschlandticket I have not confirmed; if in doubt, ask ESWE or the RMV.
