🦮 Large · Hungary
A sensitive, extremely people-oriented pointing dog that seeks constant closeness and quickly grows restless without intensive activity.
The Vizsla is affectionate to an extreme degree, gentle in temperament and usually friendly rather than wary toward strangers. It constantly seeks physical contact with its people and tolerates being alone poorly.
The breed has an exceptionally high exercise requirement and needs pointing or retrieving work as mental stimulation alongside long runs. Insufficient activity often leads to separation anxiety and destructive behavior.
The short, smooth coat is low-maintenance and needs only occasional brushing. With thin skin and low body fat, the Vizsla is sensitive to cold and weather.
The enormous exercise needs and intense attachment overwhelm many beginners, so experience with active gundog breeds is an advantage. The Vizsla generally does not tolerate long periods alone well.
Breed-typical conditions include hip dysplasia, epilepsy, hypothyroidism and an elevated risk of certain cancers such as lymphosarcoma. Regular veterinary checkups are recommended.
