🦮 Large · United Kingdom
The Smooth Collie is the short-coated variant of the Scottish Collie, an elegant, friendly herding dog with high trainability.

Smooth Collies are regarded as friendly, gentle, and family-oriented, while also watchful and eager to learn as a classic herding dog. They are highly people-oriented and show little aggression toward strangers or other dogs. The herding instinct occasionally shows in a wish to round up family members or children.
As a herding dog the Smooth Collie needs daily exercise and mental occupation such as dog sports, long-lining, or herding-instinct work. Plain walks are often not enough for active representatives of the breed. When well exercised, it is a calm and pleasant everyday companion.
The short, dense coat is markedly lower-maintenance than that of the Rough Collie and needs weekly brushing, more often during shedding season. Otherwise grooming needs are low.
Thanks to its friendly, eager-to-learn nature and good trainability, the Smooth Collie is also well suited to first-time owners, provided the herding dog's exercise and occupation needs are met. Consistent, loving training is usually sufficient.
The breed is typically affected by Collie eye anomaly (CEA) and the MDR1 gene mutation, which affects tolerance of certain medications. Responsible breeders test for both, and hip dysplasia should also be monitored.
