🐕 Medium · Sweden
The Swedish Lapphund is a robust Nordic spitz originally bred to herd reindeer, with a watchful temperament and a close bond to its family.
The Lapphund is alert, friendly, and strongly people-oriented, usually reserved but not fearful toward strangers. The breed is considered bright and eager to work.
Exercise needs are high; the breed loves mental challenges, dog sports, and long walks in any weather, thanks to its dense coat even in cold conditions.
The dense, weatherproof double coat needs regular brushing, especially during coat blow. In warm weather, adequate shade and water should be provided.
Its friendly, eager-to-learn nature makes the Lapphund generally suitable for beginners, but its exercise and stimulation needs should not be underestimated.
The breed is considered robust and not very prone to illness; hip dysplasia and eye conditions occur occasionally.
