🐕 Medium · France
A French pack scenthound created by crossing the Beagle and the Harrier, combining a keen nose with tireless hunting temperament.
The Beagle-Harrier is friendly, sociable, and enjoys working in a pack, yet pursues any interesting trail with great persistence. It is affectionate toward people and shows little aggression.
As a scent and pack hound, the breed needs long daily exercise with opportunities for trailing, ideally in secured areas given its pronounced hunting drive. Short walks around the block are not enough.
The short, smooth coat is low-maintenance and needs only occasional brushing. The pendant ears should be checked regularly to prevent infections.
Suitable for active owners with scenthound experience or a clear plan for occupation; the hunting drive makes off-leash exercise without training considerably harder.
The breed is considered robust; hip dysplasia and ear infections from the drop ears occur occasionally. Like many scenthounds, it tends toward weight gain if underexercised.
