🐕 Medium · England, United Kingdom
A medium-sized English flushing dog with a long, silky coat in black or liver, a gentle temperament and a strong enthusiasm for field and water work.

The Field Spaniel is gentle, affectionate and even-tempered, yet alert and eager to work in the field. It is very attached to people and usually gets along well with other dogs.
As a gundog it needs daily, extensive exercise with opportunities to flush and retrieve, ideally including water work. Short walks alone will not satisfy it in the long run.
The long, silky coat needs brushing several times a week to prevent matting and requires regular trimming around the ears and paws. The drop ears should be checked for possible infections.
Its pronounced need for occupation and hunting drive call for active owners who regularly give it meaningful tasks, so true beginners should inform themselves well.
The breed is generally robust, but within the small population hip dysplasia and eye disorders can occur. Regular health screening by reputable breeders helps lower the risk.
