🐕 Medium · Spain (Catalonia)
An agile Spanish herding dog with a shaggy coat, intelligent and eager to work, that needs a job and consistent activity.

The Catalan Sheepdog is watchful, intelligent, and strongly bonded to its family, while reserved to wary toward strangers. As a herding dog it has a pronounced protective and working instinct.
Exercise needs are high; the breed needs daily activity through herding tasks, dog sports, or demanding activities. Plain walks usually do not sufficiently meet its exercise and activity needs.
The long, shaggy coat must be brushed regularly to prevent matting; clipping is not customary. The coat's natural weather protection should be preserved when trimming.
Only conditionally suitable for beginners, since the breed needs a job and tends toward wariness and barking without adequate activity. Experience with herding breeds is an advantage.
Breed-typical conditions include hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), and occasional hereditary eye diseases. Regular eye exams and hip X-rays for breeding animals are recommended.
