🐕 Medium · United Kingdom
A muscular, people-oriented terrier with great strength and stamina that needs early socialization, consistent training, and, in some regions, compliance with breed-specific legislation.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is extremely people-oriented, playful, and affectionate, traditionally showing little aggression toward humans. Toward other dogs, it can be more confrontational depending on socialization and disposition.
This powerful, high-endurance breed needs intense daily exercise along with tug and strength games, mantrailing, or dog sports. Without physical and mental stimulation, excess energy often turns into restlessness.
The short, smooth coat is low-maintenance and needs only occasional brushing. Skin folds and nails should be checked regularly.
The breed's strength, muscularity, and breed-specific legislation in some regions call for experienced, consistent owners with clear leadership from puppyhood onward. Early, broad socialization is especially important for this breed.
Known conditions include hip dysplasia (HD), patellar luxation, and the breed-specific L-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria (L-2-HGA), a hereditary metabolic disorder of the nervous system. A genetic test for L-2-HGA as well as hereditary cataracts is recommended for breeding dogs.
