🐕 Medium · Germany
A versatile hunting pointer with very high exercise and work requirements, quickly becoming unbalanced and difficult to manage without regular hunting or sporting activity.

The Small Münsterländer is alert, eager to work, and closely bonded to its handler. It has a strong hunting drive and needs a job to feel content.
This breed needs several hours of demanding exercise daily and ideally hunting or hunting-related tasks such as tracking or retrieving. Plain walks are not enough for it in the long run.
The medium-length, weatherproof coat needs regular brushing, especially on the ears and legs, where undergrowth and dirt get caught. Ears and paws should be checked after hunting outings.
The Small Münsterländer is unsuitable for beginners, since its strong hunting drive and exercise needs call for hunting guidance or very experienced sporting owners. Without appropriate outlets, it develops behavioural problems.
Breed-typical conditions include hip dysplasia and progressive retinal atrophy. Elbow dysplasia also occurs, so joint screening of breeding stock is recommended.
