🦮 Large · Germany
A versatile German hunting dog with very high working and enrichment needs, which quickly appears understimulated without a hunting or sporting job.

The Pudelpointer is eager to work, fond of water, and closely bonded to its handler, with a pronounced scenting and pointing instinct. It is generally friendly toward strangers while remaining alert.
As a versatile hunting dog, the breed needs intense daily stimulation through retrieving, scent work, swimming, or hunting training. Without a real job, excess energy is often channeled into restlessness or destructiveness.
The rough, wiry coat is low-maintenance, needing only occasional brushing and one or two hand-stripping sessions a year. Drop ears should be checked regularly for infections.
The very high working and enrichment needs make the breed unsuitable for purely family-oriented households without hunting or sporting activity. It suits active hunters or ambitious dog-sport enthusiasts best.
Reported conditions include hip dysplasia (HD) and elbow dysplasia (ED), along with an elevated risk of gastric torsion due to its deep chest. Ear infections from the drop ears should be checked regularly.
