🐕🦺 X-Large · Brazil
The Fila Brasileiro is a massive Brazilian molosser with a pronounced protective instinct, deep suspicion of strangers, and unconditional loyalty to its family.

The Fila Brasileiro shows pronounced distrust of strangers (ojeriza), which is typical of the breed and intentionally bred for, while being affectionate and gentle with its family. Its strong protective instinct requires very experienced handling.
Exercise needs are moderate; extended walks in a safe, controlled environment are usually sufficient. More important than sheer exercise is consistent socialization training from puppyhood.
The short, dense coat is low-maintenance; occasional brushing is enough. Given its size and the strain on its joints, exercise should be adapted appropriately during growth.
In Germany, the Fila Brasileiro is classified as a restricted breed or subject to regulated ownership in several federal states; the breed is suitable only for very experienced, responsible owners.
As with many large molossers, hip and elbow dysplasia as well as bloat occur. Regular veterinary checkups are important.
