Temperament & character

The Ca de Bou is a Majorcan molosser originally used as a guard and cattle-driving dog, displaying great confidence and courage. Within its family it is calm and affectionate, but naturally wary and territorial toward strangers and unfamiliar dogs.

Exercise & stimulation

Physically, moderate daily walks are enough; more important is consistent leadership and early socialization so that its pronounced guarding and protective instinct doesn't get out of hand. Clear structure and firm rules matter more for this molosser than pure fitness.

Grooming

The short, coarse coat is very low-maintenance and needs only occasional brushing. Skin folds on the head should be checked and kept dry as needed.

Suitable for beginners?

As a powerful molosser with a strong protective instinct, the Ca de Bou needs an experienced, confident owner and consistent, early socialization; it is not suitable for beginners.

Health & common problems

The breed is generally considered robust, though like many molossers hip dysplasia and occasional skin-fold problems can occur.

Good with: Experienced, consistent owners with a house and yard
