🦮 Large · Italy
A gentle Italian pointing dog with a keen sense of smell that needs plenty of exercise and patient, motivating training.

The Bracco Italiano is gentle, sensitive, and closely bonded to its family, more reserved than aggressive toward strangers. As a pointing dog it has a keen sense of smell and a strong hunting instinct.
Exercise needs are high; extensive walks and scent work match its original use as a hunting dog. Without enough exercise and activity the breed becomes restless.
The short, dense coat needs little care; regular brushing is sufficient. The drop ears, on the other hand, should be checked and cleaned regularly.
Suitable for beginners with some reservations, since the breed reacts sensitively to harsh training methods and needs motivating, patient training. The high exercise needs should be realistically factored in before acquiring one.
Breed-typical conditions include ear infections from the drop ears, gastric torsion due to the deep chest, and hip and elbow dysplasia. Regular ear checks and joint X-rays for breeding animals are recommended.
