🦮 Large · Belgium
The Bouvier des Ardennes is a robust, rustic Belgian cattle-driving dog with a rough coat, a fearless character, and a strong bond with its family.

The Bouvier des Ardennes was bred as a tough farm and cattle-driving dog for work in the Ardennes and is correspondingly hardy, watchful and fearless. It is deeply devoted to its family, though naturally wary of strangers.
This breed needs daily, sustained exercise as well as tasks that match its original working drive, such as herding-style games or dog sports. Short walks alone will not satisfy its exercise needs.
The rough double coat is brushed several times a week and traditionally hand-stripped now and then, but overall it is low-maintenance compared with show terriers. Occasional checks of paws and ears are usually sufficient.
Its independent, rustic farm-dog character calls for confident, consistent leadership and therefore suits experienced owners better.
Due to its limited population and lack of exaggerated breeding, the breed is considered comparatively healthy and robust, with hip dysplasia occurring occasionally.
