🦮 Large · Russia
An elegant Russian sighthound with a strong sight-hunting instinct that needs short, intense sprints and a securely fenced area.

The Borzoi is calm, sensitive, and reservedly affectionate toward its family, while more reserved toward strangers. As a sighthound it reacts strongly to fast movement and may chase small animals.
Exercise needs show up as short, intense sprints rather than endurance running, complemented by calm rest periods in daily life. Off-leash exercise is advisable only in securely fenced areas.
The silky, medium-length coat must be brushed regularly to prevent matting, especially behind the ears and on the legs. Otherwise, coat care is manageable.
Only conditionally suitable for beginners, since the pronounced prey drive requires a secure property and consistent recall training. The calm, reserved nature suits owners who are not expecting an overly playful dog.
Breed-typical is an increased risk of gastric torsion due to the deep chest, along with heightened sensitivity to certain anesthetics because of the low body fat percentage. Visible ribs are normal for this sighthound breed and not a sign of malnutrition.
