🦮 Large · United States
A tall, leggy American pack hound for fox hunting, exceptionally friendly, tireless and with an outstanding nose.

The American Foxhound is gentle, sociable and shaped by pack life, so it generally gets along very well with other dogs. It is reserved but not aggressive toward strangers.
It needs extensive daily exercise such as running or hiking and can keep going almost tirelessly. If underexercised, it tends toward howling and wandering off.
The short coat is low-maintenance; because of its strong nose, a securely fenced yard is important.
Workable for active beginners willing to commit to extensive daily exercise and patient recall training, since its nose often overrides obedience.
The breed is considered robust and long-lived; hip dysplasia and ear infections are the most commonly reported issues.
