Dog Parks and Off-Leash Areas in Munich
16 named dog parks and exercise areas in Munich and the surrounding area. Whether off-leash exercise is allowed depends on the rules of each area. Plus 9 more without a listed name, visible only on the map in the app.
Listed places are within 16 km of the centre of Munich, including the surrounding area. This radius does not follow municipal boundaries.
Off-leash exercise in Munich: which rules apply?
Munich has no blanket leash requirement. Off-leash exercise is possible unless local rules or special restrictions for the dog apply. A place listed as a dog meadow is therefore no guarantee that off-leash exercise is permitted.
In municipal parks, dogs must stay off playgrounds and play or sunbathing lawns marked by green bollards. Dogs must be leashed on paths within these areas; the municipal park rules list further excluded areas.
Ostpark: This park is in the southeast, by Neuperlach and Ramersdorf. Accessible park areas offer options for a dog walk. Check signs and municipal park rules; playgrounds and restricted sunbathing lawns are not dog exercise areas.
Westpark: All dogs must be leashed here. Plan a walk on the leash rather than off-leash exercise.
English Garden: Dogs must also be leashed here. The Bavarian Palace Department's park ordinance expressly prohibits letting dogs run loose. The size of the park does not change this rule.
