A riverside sniff, a park walk and something to drink afterwards: three outings with a specific destination, checked venue policies and room to turn back early.
An afternoon in Munich with your dog can be as simple as a walk and somewhere suitable to stop. These three suggestions combine both: the Isar and Glockenbachviertel, the southern English Garden, or Bogenhausen. Each walk can be shortened, and you can decide along the way whether your dog is up for sitting in a café afterwards.

The routes below are our planning suggestions. There is no guaranteed walking time: sniffing stops, diversions and your dog’s pace all count. Use a map for street crossings and follow any closures on the ground. We recommend a lead for all three outings, especially on bridges and near roads; this is practical advice, not a statement about the legal status of every path.

For a manageable loop, head to Reichenbach Bridge and cross the Isar to its eastern bank. Follow the riverside paths south to Wittelsbach Bridge. Cross back to the western side there and return towards Reichenbach Bridge. Afterwards, Fraunhoferstraße leads back into the neighbourhood; your café destination is on Pestalozzistraße.
The loop links two bridges instead of committing you to a distant destination. To shorten it, turn back earlier on the same bank. Stay on existing paths. If an access point is flooded or closed, use a safe alternative; swimming is not part of this plan.

Dogs are welcome if they settle quietly at the table without disturbing guests. The FAQ does not separate indoor and terrace permission. Standard table reservations last 90 minutes. Botanista: dogs and bookings
A good fit if your dog can settle under or beside a table after a walk. When booking, mention their size and ask for space away from the main walkway. If the outing has already been enough for your dog, heading home is a perfectly good ending. The café need not become an obligation.
For this outing, stay in the southern English Garden. From the park entrance on Lerchenfeldstraße, choose an out-and-back walk along the park paths. If you want to go further, use the Monopteros as a landmark on your map. There is no need to climb the hill or reach the next beer garden. Finish near your starting point.

Dogs may use the ground-floor terrace; rooftop access starts after museum closing. The rooftop was listed as closed when checked. Indoor permission is unconfirmed, so plan for the lower terrace and check availability. SOLÂ: dogs and opening
A good fit if you want to sit outside and the weather suits. For a rainy day, confirm an indoor table elsewhere beforehand. Also ask how to reach the permitted area directly with your dog. Permission for one café area does not mean permission to visit the museum with a dog.
Here, you choose the turning point. Start at Max-Joseph Bridge, choose an open riverside path and walk only as far as your dog can comfortably manage with the return journey included. A good fit if you want to keep the walk flexible. If you have booked a table, decide before setting off when you need to turn back. That saves the final sniffing stop from becoming a hurried dash. Without a booking, check that the available table leaves enough space for your dog before ordering.

We suggest this old-town option only if your dog is comfortable around people and music. Give them a separate walk beforehand and keep the city stroll brief. Permission to enter does not guarantee a suitable resting spot. If you are only beginning to practise eating out together, we would start with a short visit somewhere you can easily leave.

Munich has no blanket lead requirement for every dog. Specific rules apply in places such as Westpark and areas marked by green bollards. Large adult dogs must be on a lead within the Altstadtring, among other areas. The city’s dog regulations explain which dogs qualify and where dogs cannot enter. Individual park rules also apply.
One dog travels free with a valid MVV ticket or Deutschlandticket. Additional dogs generally need a child’s ticket unless carried in a basket or bag. Leads are required in vehicles and S-/U-Bahn stations; a muzzle is required if a dog could endanger passengers. Dogs classified as fighting dogs are excluded. MVV: taking dogs on public transport

Mallertshofer See: on 7 October 2026, the official cyanobacteria warning following samples taken on 14 August was still published. The municipality explicitly advises keeping dogs out of the water.
