🐕🦺 X-Large · Spain
An enormous Spanish livestock guardian dog of imposing stature, calm and easygoing in daily life but with a pronounced protective and territorial instinct toward perceived threats.

The Spanish Mastiff is calm and easygoing day to day and deeply loyal to its family, but becomes decisive and protective when it perceives a threat. It naturally approaches strangers with reserve.
As a livestock guardian, the breed traditionally moves at a leisurely pace and watches over its territory rather than seeking athletic exertion. Still, it needs daily exercise and sufficient space.
The dense coat needs regular brushing, especially during shedding season, and skin folds on the head should be checked for irritation. Given its size, joint-friendly exercise is especially important for puppies.
Given its size, weight, and protective instinct, it is suitable only for very experienced owners with sufficient space and leadership skills — definitely not for beginners.
As a giant breed, the Spanish Mastiff is prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, bloat, and heart disease. Its rapid growth as a puppy requires carefully controlled feeding.
