🐕🦺 X-Large · Poland
The Polish Tatra Sheepdog is a large white Polish livestock guardian dog from the Tatra Mountains with a strong protective instinct.

This breed is calm, independent and highly territorial, with a pronounced livestock-guarding and watchdog instinct. Toward its own family, it is affectionate and patient, while toward strangers and unfamiliar dogs, it is watchful to wary. The protective drive makes consistent socialization from puppyhood essential.
Exercise needs are moderate; the breed prefers calm patrolling to intense play or sport. Adequate space, ideally a fenced property, matters more than long athletic workouts. Mental stimulation through guarding tasks suits its nature well.
The dense, white double coat needs regular brushing, several times a week during shedding season, to prevent matting. Otherwise, grooming is manageable. Nails and ears should be checked routinely.
The pronounced guarding and protective instinct, together with the breed's size, require experienced owners with a secure property and consistent, early socialization. The breed is unsuitable for beginners or purely urban apartments.
As a large breed, it is prone to hip dysplasia and bloat, so several small meals and rest after eating are recommended. Overall, though, the breed is considered robust and slow to age.
