🐕 Medium · Morocco / North Africa
A North African sighthound with an aloof, sensitive temperament that bonds closely with its family and needs calm, experienced guidance.

The Sloughi is reserved to aloof toward strangers, but affectionate and sensitive toward its family. It reacts sensitively to harsh handling and needs calm, consistent training without pressure.
It needs daily free running in a secure environment to work off its sprinting ability; moderate walks suffice otherwise. Because of its pronounced prey drive, it should only run off-leash in secured or fenced areas in open country.
The short coat is low-maintenance; visible ribs are typical of the breed and not a sign of being underweight. Because of its thin fat layer the Sloughi chills quickly and needs a coat in winter.
Rather unsuitable for first-time owners, since its sensitive nature, strong prey drive, and need for secure fencing and leash handling require experience with sighthounds.
The Sloughi is considered a robust, genetically sound breed. Like many sighthounds it is sensitive to certain anesthetics and to cold.
