🐾 Small · Scotland (Isle of Skye)
An elongated Scottish terrier with a distinctive long coat that is deeply loyal to its family yet reserved toward strangers.

The Skye Terrier is confident, loyal to its people, and often distant to wary toward strangers. Despite its short legs, it has a typical terrier character with independence and courage.
Exercise needs are moderate, though it shows a pronounced prey drive toward small animals such as rats, the purpose for which the breed was originally bred. Consistent leash control off-lead is therefore advisable.
The long, straight topcoat needs brushing several times a week to prevent matting. The short legs and long back call for caution with jumping off furniture or stairs.
The independent character and wariness of strangers demand consistent, early socialization, so prior terrier experience is an advantage.
Back problems from the elongated spine and occasional jaw misalignments occur. Overall, though, the breed is considered robust and tends to live to a comparatively old age.
