🐕 Medium · Poland
The Polish Lowland Sheepdog is a shaggy-coated Polish herding dog with a sharp mind, a strong protective instinct, and deep attachment to its family.

The PON is watchful, intelligent and an independent thinker, often meeting strangers with natural suspicion. It is closely bonded to its family and a reliable watchdog.
Exercise needs are high; herding work, dog sports, and mental stimulation suit its independent character well. Lack of stimulation quickly leads to stubbornness or barking.
The long, shaggy double coat needs thorough brushing several times a week to prevent matting. The area around the eyes should be kept free of matted hair so the dog can see clearly.
Its pronounced watchfulness and independence require consistent, early socialization, so the breed suits experienced herding or family owners better.
The breed is considered robust, with hip dysplasia and the inherited eye disease PRA occurring occasionally. Health testing of breeding stock is advisable.
