🐕 Medium · Peru
The Peruvian Hairless Dog is an ancient, usually hairless breed from Peru, bred in three size varieties from small to large.

The Peruvian Hairless Dog is attentive, affectionate toward its family and tends to be reserved to watchful with strangers. It is considered intelligent and willing to learn, but also shows a certain independence. With familiar people it is cuddly and seeks physical closeness.
Moderate daily walks and play are enough for most of the breed, as they are less athletic than many other breeds of similar size. Mental engagement through training and tricks is readily accepted. Activity should be adjusted in cold weather or strong sun.
The bare skin needs special protection from sunburn through sunscreen or clothing, as well as protection from cold with a dog coat in winter. Regular moisturizing for dry skin and checking the often gappy dentition are also part of its care. There is also a coated variety of the same breed.
The special requirements for skin care, sun and cold protection, and possible dental peculiarities call for some experience and attentiveness from owners. Temperamentally, the breed is otherwise easygoing and adaptable.
Breed-typical issues include skin problems such as sunburn, acne or dryness, as well as often incomplete dentition, since the hairless gene is linked to dental anomalies. Regular skin and dental checks by a veterinarian are recommended.
