🐾 Small · United Kingdom (England)
An enduring, extremely hardworking hunting terrier with very high exercise needs that quickly becomes unmanageable and difficult without daily, demanding activity.

The Parson Russell Terrier is bold, alert, and tirelessly eager to work, with a strong hunting drive toward small animals. He is intelligent and eager to learn, but also independent and assertive.
Exercise needs rank among the highest of any terrier breed; several hours of daily activity through dog sports, work, or intensive engagement is necessary. Underoccupation quickly leads to problem behaviour.
The coat can be smooth or rough and is low-maintenance in both varieties; rough-coated dogs need occasional trimming. Ears should be checked regularly.
Only conditionally suited to beginners, since the exceptionally high exercise and activity needs, along with the hunting drive, call for experienced, athletically active owners. Without adequate outlets the breed quickly becomes destructive.
Breed-typical conditions include patellar luxation and primary lens luxation, an inherited eye disease requiring regular ophthalmic checks. Hereditary ataxia also occurs in some lines.
