🐕 Medium · Sweden
A small, hardy Nordic bird dog from Sweden with a fox-like expression, originally bred to flush and point game in trees for hunters.

The Norrbottenspitz is alert, friendly, and self-reliant, with a pronounced hunting and prey drive toward small animals. It shows great interest in its surroundings and is usually easygoing with strangers.
As a lively hunting spitz, the breed needs plenty of daily exercise and mental and scent-based stimulation, such as tracking or search games. Under-stimulation quickly shows up as restlessness and barking.
The short, dense coat is easy to care for and needs only weekly brushing, more often during coat change. Otherwise, the breed is low-maintenance and robust.
Suitable for active beginners interested in scent work, provided the hunting drive is channeled consistently; pure apartment living without proper outlets is not a good fit.
The breed is considered very robust and long-lived with few known hereditary disorders; patellar luxation occurs occasionally. The small but genetically broad population is carefully managed in Scandinavia.
