🐾 Small · United Kingdom (England)
A sociable, sturdy small terrier with a pronounced prey drive and wiry coat that, despite its compact size, needs plenty of daily outdoor exercise and activity.

The Norfolk Terrier is considered sociable, affectionate, and less dominant than other terriers, yet remains bold and has a pronounced prey drive. It generally gets along well with other dogs.
Exercise needs are high; daily, varied walks with opportunities to sniff match its origin as a small-game hunter. Off-leash exercise should be controlled because of its prey drive.
The wiry, weatherproof coat needs regular trimming (hand-stripping) to maintain its texture and color. The drop ears should be checked regularly for cleanliness.
Only conditionally suitable for beginners, since the prey drive requires consistent training, even though its overall temperament is more easygoing than that of many other terriers. Adequate activity is a prerequisite for a relaxed coexistence.
Breed-typical is patellar luxation; heart valve conditions such as mitral valve disease occur occasionally. Regular orthopedic and cardiac checkups are recommended.
