Temperament & character

Maltipoos are cuddly, playful, and strongly attached to their person, combining the Maltese's affection with the Poodle's alertness. Temperament and appearance can vary by generation and parentage, but Maltipoos are generally considered social, attentive, and eager to learn. Many are initially reserved with strangers but warm up quickly.

Exercise & stimulation

Exercise needs are modest; short daily walks and indoor play sessions are usually enough. Mental stimulation matters more than pure physical activity, since Maltipoos learn quickly and get bored easily.

Grooming

The soft, often curly coat mats quickly without daily brushing and should be trimmed regularly. Because of their small size, Maltipoos are vulnerable to injury around small children or larger dogs and need correspondingly gentle handling.

Suitable for beginners?

Maltipoos are well suited to first-time owners and apartment living; their small size and affectionate nature make them easy to manage day to day. Daily coat care should still be factored in.

Health & common problems

As with many small dogs, patellar luxation and dental problems can occur, and eye diseases inherited from the Poodle side are possible. A responsible breeder tests both parents for patellas and eyes; hybrid vigor offers no guarantee against inherited disease.

Good with: Apartment living, seniors, and families with older children
