🐾 Small · England
A small, short-muzzled English lapdog with a gentle temperament, once prized as a royal companion and still highly affectionate today.

The King Charles Spaniel is calm, tender and enjoys closeness to its people, generally showing an even-tempered, low-key disposition.
Short walks and indoor play are usually enough for it; high athletic exertion is not its thing.
The long, silky coat needs regular brushing; because of the short skull, the eyes, skin folds and heat sensitivity should be watched closely.
Manageable for beginners thanks to its calm, affectionate temperament, though attentive veterinary care is important because of possible heart and neurological disorders.
The breed is strongly predisposed to mitral valve disease of the heart as well as syringomyelia due to its skull shape, and also has increased heat and breathing sensitivity because of its short muzzle.
