🐕 Medium · Ireland
A versatile Irish terrier with a soft, blue-grey coat that needs activity, training, and regular coat care.

The Kerry Blue Terrier is confident, bold, and independent as typical for terriers, while also affectionate toward its family. It can be dominant toward dogs of the same sex, making early socialization important.
Exercise needs are high; the breed was originally used for hunting small game and herding, and needs corresponding exercise and activity. Sporting activities such as agility suit its temperament well.
The soft, wavy coat sheds very little but must be trimmed regularly and clipped every six to eight weeks. Neglected coats mat quickly.
Only conditionally suitable for beginners, since consistent training and socialization toward other dogs are necessary. Coat-care effort is a further factor to consider.
Breed-typical conditions include hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), and a hereditary factor XI deficiency clotting disorder. Breeding animals should be tested for these conditions.
