🐕 Medium · Japan
A rare Japanese hunting spitz with a distinctive brindle coat, originally used to hunt wild boar and deer.

The Kai Ken is independent, intelligent, and strongly attached to one handler, remaining reserved with strangers. Its hunting and trailing drive is pronounced.
It needs plenty of daily exercise and mental stimulation; hunting and trailing-based activities suit its original instincts well.
The dense double coat sheds seasonally and needs more frequent brushing at those times, but is otherwise low-odor and easy to maintain.
Better suited to owners with some experience of independent breeds, since its hunting drive and strong will require consistent handling.
The breed is considered robust with few documented hereditary disorders, though hip dysplasia can occur.
