🐕🦺 X-Large · France
A powerful French molosser with a massive head, calm and deeply devoted to its family, but notable for its strikingly short life expectancy.

The Dogue de Bordeaux is calm, affectionate, and protective of its family, and despite its size, is usually gentle with children. It can be strong-willed and needs clear, patient leadership.
It prefers short, controlled walks over athletic exertion, since its joints and circulation are quickly overtaxed by heat and strenuous activity.
The short coat is low-maintenance, but the facial wrinkles need regular cleaning. Heavy drooling is typical of the breed.
Not really suited to beginners, since its size, strength, and the need for health vigilance require experienced owners of large breeds.
The breed is prone to bloat, hip and elbow dysplasia, and heart disease; average life expectancy is noticeably lower than that of many other breeds.
