🐾 Small · Czech Republic
The Cesky Terrier is a short-legged, silky-coated terrier from the Czech Republic with a calmer temperament but an alert prey drive.

Cesky Terriers are affectionate with their family, even-tempered and less hot-headed than many other terriers, yet remain watchful and wary of strangers. Despite its calmer nature, the prey drive is still present, since the breed was originally bred for den hunting on fox and badger. Toward children and its own family, it is usually very loyal.
Daily walks and moderate occupation are enough for most Cesky Terriers, as they are less restless than classic terriers. Scenting and search games cater to the prey drive and provide meaningful stimulation. Off-lead time should be controlled because of the hunting tendency.
The silky coat grows continuously and must be clipped every six to eight weeks and brushed several times a week to prevent matting. It sheds very little, which makes the breed interesting for allergy sufferers. Ears and nails should be checked regularly.
Thanks to its calmer nature, the Cesky Terrier is more approachable than many terrier breeds, but the prey drive and coat care do require some experience and consistency. Early socialization helps ease wariness toward strangers.
The breed is considered robust, though the genetically narrow population sees a higher incidence of the neurological condition Cesky Terrier Neuropathy, for which reputable breeders test. Regular veterinary checkups are recommended.
