🐕 Medium · Austria
The Brandlbracke is an Austrian blood-trailing hound with a keen nose, tremendous stamina in mountain terrain, and a strong bond with its experienced hunting handler.

Also known as the Vieräugl, the Brandlbracke was bred for tracking wounded game in alpine terrain and works very independently with its keen nose. It is reserved with strangers but extremely loyal and attentive to its handler.
The breed needs extensive exercise and, ideally, genuine scent work in the field to put its stamina and nose to proper use. Ordinary city walks fall well short of its exercise and occupational needs.
The short, smooth coat is easy to care for, but the long drop ears should be checked regularly for infection. After hunting or fieldwork, it is worth checking for ticks and injuries.
As a specialized hunting dog bred for tracking, the Brandlbracke is practically suited only to experienced hunters, not as a purely family pet without hunting work.
The breed is generally considered robust and not very prone to hereditary disorders; hip dysplasia or ear infections occur occasionally.
