🐕 Medium · Australia
A tough Australian cattle-droving dog bred for vast herds, extremely enduring, watchful, and known for one of the highest work drives of any dog breed.

The Australian Cattle Dog is highly intelligent, watchful, and very closely bonded to its owner, but tends toward dominance and heel-nipping without clear leadership. It is reserved to distrustful toward strangers.
This breed is among the most work-driven of all dogs and needs several hours of intense physical and mental stimulation daily, such as herding tasks, long-lining, or dog sports. Underemployment quickly leads to behavioral problems.
The short, dense double coat is low-maintenance and needs only weekly brushing, more often during shedding season. Daily occupation matters more than coat care.
Unsuitable for first-time owners, as its extreme work drive and pronounced herding instinct without experience quickly lead to problem behaviors such as nipping and barking.
The breed is robust and long-lived but can show congenital deafness, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), and hip dysplasia. Regular hearing and eye tests are recommended in breeding.
