🐕 Medium · United States
A lively, brilliant-white American spitz of high intelligence and pronounced watchfulness, bred in three different size varieties to suit very different lifestyles and living situations.

American Eskimo Dogs are bright, playful and strongly attached to their family, but tend toward wariness of strangers and frequent barking. They are considered highly trainable when given consistency and mental stimulation.
As a lively spitz, the breed needs daily exercise as well as mental work such as trick training or agility, since it otherwise grows bored quickly. A lack of activity often leads to excessive barking.
The dense, white double coat needs regular, thorough brushing to prevent matting, especially during shedding season. The white color shows dirt quickly but is easy to keep clean.
Suitable for beginners willing to commit to consistent training and bark control; without clear rules the breed tends toward constant barking and stubbornness.
The breed is generally considered healthy and long-lived; patellar luxation, hip dysplasia and the eye condition progressive retinal atrophy occur occasionally. Reputable breeding with health testing should be sought.
