🐕 Medium · Austria
The Alpine Dachsbracke is a robust Austrian scenthound for mountain hunting, short-legged, weatherproof and with a keen nose for blood-tracking work on steep terrain.
The Dachsbracke is tireless, courageous and single-minded at work, but calm and affectionate at home. It is reserved but not aggressive toward strangers.
Exercise needs are high; the breed requires regular trailing and scent work as well as extended exercise outdoors, and pure apartment living hardly does it justice.
The short, dense coat is low-maintenance and weatherproof; occasional brushing is enough. Paws and ears should be checked after work in the field.
As a specialized hunting dog, the Alpine Dachsbracke suits actively hunting, experienced owners better than a purely family setting.
Its short back carries some risk of disc problems, but overall the robust breed is considered not very disease-prone.
