🐕 Medium · Netherlands (Friesland)
A rare Frisian pointing dog with a balanced, family-friendly temperament, developed as an all-round hunting and farm watchdog.

The Stabyhoun is unusually affectionate, patient, and good with children, making it notably even-tempered compared with many other hunting breeds. It is generally friendly toward strangers, though mildly watchful.
Despite its calm nature, it is a versatile working dog with pointing, retrieving, and flushing ability and needs regular occupation. Plain walks are not enough in the long run; it wants a job to do.
The medium-length, smooth to slightly wavy coat needs weekly brushing, a bit more often during shedding season. The breed is generally low-maintenance and weatherproof.
Because the breed is still rare and bred from working lines, contact with an experienced breeder is important; otherwise the Stabyhoun is comparatively beginner-friendly.
Genetic diversity is actively monitored through a studbook with health requirements, which keeps hereditary conditions such as epilepsy and eye disease in check. Overall the breed is considered robust.
